s of Chapters in the Book I. Fundamental Aspects I.1. The Lexical Representation of Knowledge: A multi-disciplinary perspective Editors This an original overview paper by the editors that establish the frame of reference for research on NLP using ontology and lexical resources. In essence, we adopt a mental lexicon approach where knowledge is lexically represented and accessed. Hence lexical resources represent the repertoire of human knowledge, while ontology imposes a structure for representation and reasoning. We will lay out the ground for the issues to be discussed in the book: -How knowledge is captured and represented by ontologies How can lexical knowledge be converted to ontological knowledge How can ontological representations be verified/enhanced by lexical knowledge, -How can ontological knowledge be applied to NLP This overview paper will conclude with a road map for future research on the synergy of ontology and lexical resources. I.2. SUMO and WordNet Adam Pease and Christiane Fellbaum I.3. DOLCE and Wordnet Stefano Borgo, Aldo Gangemi, and Alessandro Oltramari I.4. FrameNet and SUMO Jan Scheffczyk, Collin F. Baker, Srini Narayanan I.5 A roadmap for the ontologies lexical resources interface Aldo Gangemi, Alessandro Oltramari The OntoLex approach relies crucially on a comprehensive and well-structure lexical representation of knowledge. Hence, all the fundamental work in this field starts with synergizing a ontology and a lexical resources. The ontology chosen must be well-construed and robust, while the lexical resources must be comprehensive intra-linguistically and robust enough to allow inter-lingual exchanges. We will introduce two of the most widely used ontology, with special emphasize on how they synergize with the most commonly used lexical resources: WordNet. I.2.

Linking Lexical Resources and Ontologies on the Semantic Web with Lemon
There are a large number of ontologies currently available on the Semantic Web. However, in order to exploit them within natural language processing applications, more linguistic information than can be represented in current Semantic Web standards is required. Further, there are a large number of lexical resources available representing a wealth of linguistic information, but this data exists ...
متن کاملMapping Persian Words to WordNet Synsets
Lexical ontologies are one of the main resources for developing natural language processing and semantic web applications. Mapping lexical ontologies of different languages is very important for inter-lingual tasks. On the other hand mapping approaches can be implied to build lexical ontologies for a new language based on pre-existing resources of other languages. In this paper we propose a sem...
متن کاملTowards Semi Automatic Construction of a Lexical Ontology for Persian
Lexical ontologies and semantic lexicons are important resources in natural language processing. They are used in various tasks and applications, especially where semantic processing is evolved such as question answering, machine translation, text understanding, information retrieval and extraction, content management, text summarization, knowledge acquisition and semantic search engines. Altho...

متن کاملGeneration From Lexical Conceptual Structures
This paper describes a system for generating natural language sentences from an interlingual representation, Lexical Conceptual Structure (LCS). This system has been developed as part of a Chinese-English Machine Translation system, however, it promises to be useful for many other MT language pairs. The generation system has also been used in CrossLanguage information retrieval research (Levow ...
متن کاملPresenting a method for extracting structured domain-dependent information from Farsi Web pages
Extracting structured information about entities from web texts is an important task in web mining, natural language processing, and information extraction. Information extraction is useful in many applications including search engines, question-answering systems, recommender systems, machine translation, etc. An information extraction system aims to identify the entities from the text and extr...
